Dr. Sept specializes in diagnosing medical issues related to injuries, lameness, and muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries. Dr. Sept will evaluate all joints for range of motion, pain, and swelling to localize the source of pain and lameness and determine the appropriate treatment. Orthopedic surgery may be required.

TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) Procedure
-
Knee injuries caused by CCL ligament and meniscal tears
-
Rigid stabilization placing permanent stainless pins and bone plating
The TPLO procedure is the best method to repair a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) rupture. The CCL is analogous to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in humans. TPLO surgery helps to stabilize the stifle joint and reduce the likelihood of further osteoarthritis progression. TPLO is the most common procedure for dogs with a cruciate tear and requires a specialty surgeon to perform this procedure.
Dr. Sept has extensive experience in TPLO surgery, and he’s completed over 800 TPLO procedures with excellent results. Proper healing and recovery during the initial 10-14 days after surgery is closely monitored by Dr. Sept and throughout the required recovery timeline process.

Trauma-Induced Bone Fractures & Repairs
-
Leg injuries and fractures caused by traumatic events and accidents
-
Rigid Stabilization placing stainless pins and bone plating
Dr. Sept has extensive experience managing and repairing broken legs, a broken back, or severely broken bones or fractures in dogs and cats.

Patella Luxation Procedure
-
Knee injuries caused by dislocated kneecap
This procedure is performed to correct the luxation, dislocation, or “popping out” of the kneecap (called the patella). Luxating patella is caused by a congenital malformation that creates abnormal forces on the kneecap, causing it to slide out of the groove (called the patellar groove) in which it normally sits. There are different degrees, or grades, where a patellar luxation can occur.
Pre & Post Operative Pain Management, Care & Recovery
Dr. Sept’s philosophy is to use the optimal amount and appropriate type of pain medication based on specific needs, best practices to manage pain, and relieve the patient’s pain. A pre & post surgical evaluation is completed when using general anesthesia and pain medication before, during, and after surgery.
For prolonged surgeries, Dr. Sept provides 24-hours care and close monitoring in-house using injectable pain medications and provides patient updates via text. Oral pain medication is sent home and dosages managed for each individual patient.
Dr. Sept is available via text, phone, or email for any urgent concerns or unexpected issues.

Recovery plans include restricted levels of activities, post-op monitoring and continuous follow-up depending upon the procedure and progressive healing.
